Interesting and/or significant records were as follows:
Conocephalus discolor (Long-winged Conehead)
National Status:Nationally Notable (Na) but now quite common in the BRERC area although apparently no previous records from Wick Golden Valley on the BRERC database. Recorded in the Raven's Rock grassland.
Myrmica sabuleti
National Status: Local
A little recorded ant present in the Raven's Rock limestone scrub. Only the 7th record on the BRERC database and only the 3rd known locality in the BRERC area.
Lasioglossum leucopus
National Status: Red Data book listing based on pre 1994 IUCN guidelines - Rare.
Only the 6th record on the BRERC database for this solitary bee and the 1st record for South Gloucestershire. Recorded in the Raven's Rock grassland.
Ontholestes murinus
Only the 4th record on the BRERC database for this rove beetle found in the old quarry/former Ochre and Oxide works area.
Onthophagus coenobita
National Status: Local
only the 3rd record on the BRERC database for this dung beetle also found in in the old quarry/former Ochre and Oxide works area.
Protapion fulvipes (White Clover Seed Weevil)
The 4th record on the BRERC database for this weevil and the 1st record for South Gloucestershire.
Alnetoidea alneti
The 1st record on the BRERC database for this leafhopper. Swept from the Raven's Rock grassland.
Phytocoris varipes
The 6th record on the BRERC database (and only the 2nd for South Gloucestershire) for this plantbug recorded from the old quarry/former Ochre and Oxide works area.
Zyginidia scutellaris
Only the 4th record on the BRERC database for this leafhopper. Swept from the Raven's Rock grassland.
Brown Argus (Aricia agestis)
National Status: Local
The first official record of this butterfly for the Wick Golden Valley area. The Brown Argus is characteristic of limestone grassland and is reported to be expanding its range (and is quite widespread elsewhere in the BRERC area). It was recorded in the Raven's Rock limestone grassland area and also in the old quarry/former Ochre and Oxide works area.
Pyrausta purpuralis
National Status: Local
A day flying moth recorded in the Raven's Rock grassland area.
Coremacera marginata
National Status: Local
The 3rd South Gloucestershire record for this snail-killing fly (10 records on the BRERC database)
Phasia obesa
National Status: Local
The 3rd BRERC record (and the first for South Gloucestershire) for this parasitic fly.
Rhingia rostrata
National Status: Nationally Notable. Red Data book listing based on pre 1994 IUCN guidelines - Vulnerable
The 1st BRERC record for this hoverfly which is currently expanding its range in the U.K. recorded in the old quarry/former Ochre and Oxide works area.
Platycheirus manicatus
The 3rd South Gloucestershire record for this hoverfly (12 records on the BRERC database).
Platycheirus peltatus
The 3rd South Gloucestershire record for this hoverfly (13 records on the BRERC database).
Volucella zonaria
National Status: Rare and scarce species (not based on IUCN criteria) - Nationally Notable
This is the largest species of Hoverfly in the U.K. It is expanding its range and is now quite widespread in the BRERC area.
Orchesella cincta
The 2nd record for this species of springtail on the BRERC database (and the 1st for South Gloucestershire). A widespread but under-recorded species.
Campodea sp
The 1st record of a two-tailed bristletail on the BRERC database (relatively common soil-dwelling invertebrates which are rarely recorded).
Tibellus oblongus
The 1st BRERC record of this running crab spider which is quite common and widespread nationally but for some reason never before recorded here.
Oligolophus tridens
The 6th record on the BRERC database for this species of harvestman.
Nanogona polydesmoides
The 6th record on the BRERC database (and the 3rd for South Gloucestershire) for this species of flat-back millipede.
Helicigona lapicida(Lapidary Snail)
National Status: Local
Recorded in the old quarry/former Ochre and Oxide works area.
Pomatias elegans (Round-mouthed Snail)
National Status: Local
Recorded in the old quarry/former Ochre and Oxide works area and also in the Raven's Rock limestone scrub.
